Occasion Crew - Kirk Montgomery
(of Occasion Crew) RIPOFF unprofessional videographer videotaped my wedding and the DVD looks horrible!

I have filed a complaint again Mr. Montgomery and Occasion Crew with the Better Business Bureau of Chicago. Mr. Montgomery claims several times in his response that he always/did recommend that we use two cameras, however this is untrue.

Mr. Montgomery never recommended/suggested/implied that two cameras should be used. He did however give us his flyer which showed the options available; one or two cameras. As with the photographer, the wedding/reception hall/DJ and Coordinator, when there were suggestions from these people (since they have been in business for awhile and have been hired to do weddings), we usually took their advice. However again, Mr. Montgomery only showed us the flyer and allowed us to choose which option we wanted without suggesting/implying/recommending that two cameras be used.

My concern with his 'story' is that if you give customers two options, shouldn't you as a professional be able to produce quality video's with both options? True, one will be better than the other, but they still both will be quality videos allowing you to make out not only the wedding party but also members in the audience? A Mercedes and Honda are both cars, one more expense and offers more options but both capable of doing the same job (moving persons and things from point A to point B). If this is not possible, why offer the option that portrays the wedding party to be angels floating down the aisle with members in the audience who can be mistaken for ghosts (this is an African-American wedding)?

Mr. Montgomery's unprofessional taping of the wedding caused the bridal party to be unclear, seeming to walking out of a cloud with many focusing/lighting issues during their entrance. Also, many people in the audience were unclear and seemed to be ghosts at times.

When Mr. Montgomery came to our house on January 12th and this was pointed out to him, he did explain why this happened. However when we commented that other recordings of the wedding did not look like his and were taped by amateurs, he had no comment. He did however feel that maybe it was because of the other persons taping position as opposed to his. Isn't it his responsibility as the hired 'professional' to know where to stand and place the camera? Also how the lightening and taping will be affected as much as possible PRIOR to the wedding? Mr. Montgomery had a lot of suggestions/explanations January 12th however that was too late for our wedding (September 12).

In regards to the complaint of unprofessional comments, during the reception my husband recited a poem and sang a song that he wrote for me just for that day. This part of the reception was not only very important/special but cannot be replaced. During this time, Mr. Montgomery made several unprofessional remarks, 'Dag, be still etc' referring to my husband. These comments were made to someone who could not hear him, therefore did not need to be made. Also he references the DJ's feedback which is understood. Feedback from a microphone and speaker sometimes cannot be controlled. BUT, a 'professional' videographer speaking to people who cannot hear him is unacceptable.

Maybe I would be able to understand if he had stopped my husband to ask him to face the camera. Or better yet being a 'professional', the videographer himself could change his position, which sometimes may need to be done by videographers/photographers, to capture my husband's presentation. At no time should the actual person videotaping interrupt the taping (video/sound) to make comments. This is truly unprofessional and shows the lack of quality in Mr. Montgomery and Occasion Crew. This cannot be edited and will also show in our video as a special moment that was rudely and unprofessional interrupted by Kirk Montgomery.

Mr. Montgomery also claims that the wedding party was interviewed which is half-true, the whole party was not interviewed. Two important people in the party were not interviewed, the Maid and Matron of Honor.

We are very, very dissatisfied with Kirk Montgomery and his product. We will not recommend him or Occasion Crew to anyone whether friend or enemy, which is why we felt a need to file a complaint with your office. Unfortunately our day cannot be redone to be re-taped by a professional videographer. At this time, my husband and I plan to seek legal action against Mr. Montgomery and Occasion Crew.
