Dillard's Department Store
Ripoff! Looks At The Paperwork, Not The People

Not only is Dillard's quick to fire someone who is not reaching their sales goals, but they also enjoy taking their highest producing salespeople and transferring them to departments that are not doing well.

They do this so they will not have to give the person any more raises, and they will move them back to the department that they excel in after about a year and a half of pay rate decreases due to low sales in the new department. They also use the same tactic to get rid of someone that they just don't like very much.

Also, in order to keep litigation costs down, they will offer any customer who has a serious complaint, or was accidentally injured on store property, a job working within the company... Some people are rumored to have been given a "job for life" if possible litigation poses a serious threat to Dillard's bank account.

What's worse is that any person who has recieved a "job for life" can literally get away with breaking all the rules and the most severe punishment will be a transfer to another location that they will pay for all of your expenses to move!

Dedpartment Managers (ASM's) are permitted to give a customer an additional discount for a variety of reasons, but are then repremanded for giving these discounts. To avoid this most ASM's will call in the store manager or assistant manager to okay the discount, and again are more often than not brought into the executive office to be repremanded for not handling the situation on their own.

As an ASM, myself, I have been present in manager's meetings where tactics to get rid of unwanted people have been discussed, including departmental transfers and increasing sales goals. I can also report that in the store I work in there is an alarming number of people either quitting or being fired... The last number reported stated that for each person that is hired there are 2 people who quit and one person fired. This in turn increases the sales goals for those who are left behind.

The bottom line is that if you work for Dillard's, you should go find another job, and if you are planning on applying for a job with Dillards, don't.

I am leaving my name off of this report because if my supervisors were to see this I would be immediately terminated.
