Complaint / Review
Resorts Equity Marketing
Ripoff, dishonest, false advertising

I listed 2 properties with Resorts Equity Marketing (REM) in June. I was told they advertise on the Internet, Web site, US Mail, e-mail but their primary sales point was trade shows/conventions. One person took all the info and explained the process to me. I received a confirmation call right after to review the info and cover everything again. I paid $500 for each listing. If the property did not sell within 180 days I would receive 2 round trip airline vouchers for each property. It has been 250 days and I requested my vouchers.

I found out that I need to call every 90 days to renew my listing. They do not track what sells. I luckily had called to follow up on my listings before the expiration time. I was also told due to bad weather in Florida that they automatically renewed the listing because of so many conventions being cancelled.

My Vouchers showed up yesterday. It was for a Vacation Package. It requires that I book my stay in one of their hotels. The length of stay is from 7-14 nights. Even my timeshare is for only 6 nights. If I get vacation it is only for 7 days. So this is an unreasonable timeframe and it was never mentioned in either starting conversation I had. I would not have gone through with this if I had known. I was planning on visiting relatives with the vouchers.

I called to see what was up. I talked to Paul Mason, supervisor. He said the letter I received with my contract stated that it was a vacation Package. When I asked my I was never told this, he said it was in my letter. When I asked about the letter that came with my contract about advertising media, he said the only place they are required to advertise in on the Internet as stated in the contract. But I referred him back to the letter, if I am to follow what is in my letter then they are required to follow what is in theirs. He said that is not true. I told him due to their not fulfilling their requirements to advertise at conventions and trade shows that I wanted my money back. I was told that the conventions in Sept and Oct got cancelled due to weather.

He was not willing to refund any money that is company policy. The only way they refund money is if the property is sold by another company. I contacted the Florida Attorney General online and completed a complaint form. I am hoping that is enough of us complain and get the word out there something will be done. I do not want anyone else taken advantage of by this company. It ain't right.

Good luck to each of us. If you get the matter resolved let us know.
