I recently applied for a Capital One credit card, and this letter arrived from capital choice consumer credit telling me that I had been approved for a "platinum Card" and I had to send $39 to cover setting up the account. I presumed that this was the card that I had applied for coming through. I wrote a check and put it in the mail. When I got home I looked at the letter again and discovered it was not Capital One, but somebody else completely. My heart sank (a fool and his money...). I came accross this site instantly and discovered my mistake. I contacted my bank and stopped the check (I may be $25 dollars out of pocket, but at least THEY won't profit). I presume they got my name from one of these internet credit card application bureaus.
Looking back, the form was rather cheesy looking, and would have been binned instantly if i had not been expecting a letter from Capital One. These people are scoundrels preying on people with bad/no credit, and immigrants.
