Hitt Music Group (now called "Song Placement") is definately either a scam or so incompetent and uprofessional that they should be avoided at all costs.
They found me on MySpace and I was impressed with what I found when I looked into them (the Better Business Bureau rating was particularly influential). The service turned out to be a joke—every week they emailed me brief paragraphs detailing plots to movies. Now that I've seen what Taxi sends out—detailed info about types of music wanted, descriptions of who wants to hear the music—this endless stream of plot descriptions is pathetic. I also noted that their blog includes lots of information about artist successes that has nothing to do with the service (i.E. Artists who book big gigs or release new albums)—the list of successes directly related to the licensing service is small—and the legitimacy of those claims is questionable.
I emailed them in June to let them know that I absolutely did not want to re-up for a second year, and got an email in response saying they promised not to charge me automatically. Sure enough, in August my credit card had a charge of $200 for Hitt Music Group. When I disputed the charge by sending them the email I had recieved promising I wouldn't be charged, they sent me a two page survey I would need to fill out to get reimbursed. After multiple calls and emails, they still have not reimbursed me the $200. Somewhere along the way, they changed their name to "Song Placements" as well.
It is the most unprofessional treatment I've ever recieved from any company. Hitt Music Group—aka Song Placement— is to be avoided all costs.
