I played a show at Fennario Coffee Shop in West Chester a few years ago, and my band was never paid. The management charged a $4 entrance fee and you would think that some of that would go towards the band right? Nope. I didn't see a cent of it, and it was a sold out show. The venue probably made a good $200 off of us just on the cover charge alone. I've since found out that this is common practice at Fennario, that they never pay their bands.
The management preys on "green" bands who don't know any better than to bring out all their friends to see them play at Fennario, and then they stiff the bands at the end of the night. Either the management should pay bands for bringing people out, or they shouldn't charge for tickets. Oh, and the bouncer wouldn't even let my cousin in as a guest of the band. Pathetic. I won't ever play there again out of principal.
