I rented a video advertised as a 3-day rental at 7:53 P.M. On Sunday, 12/25/05. Upon check-out I was informed that my rental is due by closing (9 P.M., I think?) on Tuesday, 12/27/05.
By my calculation, the rental period is then two days, 1 hour, and seven minutes — a far cry from three days.
I seem to remember that Blockbuster got in trouble for this several years ago, which led to their changing the due time from noon to store closing, in order to more closely approximate a true 3-day rental.
The only way to get something which more closely approximates a full 3-day rental, then, would be to get there at store opening one day, whereupon the video would be due at store closing on the third day. Still not a full three days, though.
Even though I've been renting from Blockbuster for years, I was surprised when I was informed of the time my video is due. When I saw it was a 3-day rental, I presumed it would be due on Wednesday, since it was near closing time that night.
It seems to me that Blockbuster needs to do something to clarify this issue. Exactly what, I'm not sure. Suggestions?
