Columbia House Videos
Ripoff, double billed, put cash on closed account, in form of dividend dollars, sent a video that was not ordered, and charged me for it

November 16

To Whom It May Concern,

I was a member of Columbia House Videos, for a few years.in September of I ordered some movies from Columbia House Videos, and sent a money order, on September 16. The movies arrived in October. Shortly after the arrival of that shipment, I received a letter from Columbia House. The letter stated, they have not heard from me in a long time, and they threatened to cancelled my account. Offended by this letter, I called to cancel my membership.

On December 12, Columbia House Video, sent me a collection notice, for the videos, I had already paid for, threatening to report me unsatisfactory to the National Consumer Reporting Service. This information would remain on file, for up to five years. Not knowing what happened to my first payment, I made a second payment, for that movie order.

Knowing that I had made two payments for the same order, I called Columbia House Videos to get my money back. They insisted, that the only way I could prove that I paid two payments, was to obtain, postal money order searches. I obtained the searches from the post office, and they should Columbia House Video had cashed bought payments. I sent Columbia House Videos a copy of both money order searches. On June 18 they sent me a letter, stating that I had made my payment, and they credited my account. I called Columbia House Videos, to find out, that they had placed my money in a closed account, in the form of dividend dollars.

When I called them, to inform them of their mistake, they insisted that I had a zero balance, and that dividend dollars are not refundable for cash. At which point, I had told them, that I would sue them. They replied That is fine, and we will prepare for that.

After much thought, I decided that I would try to negotiate, out of court with them. Calling them again, and explaining from the beginning the error they made, they insisted that they did not receive a copy of the money orders, so I sent Columbia House Videos, a second copy of both money orders.

The next letter I received from them was thanking me for providing them with a copy of the duplicate payment. Which my account had been credited, they said A refund check is being processed and should reach me shortly. A second letter that came in the same day said that my account had been credited, and that on October 28, a refund had been sent, and a movie Arabian Nights, a movie I had not ordered, was sent the same day. I was being charged for the movie.

I called them up, to inform them, that I had not ordered this movie, and was not going to pay for it. They said it was their mistake, and all I had to do was send it back, to get my account balance back to zero. Since that call, I have received the movie, but not the refund check. I find these tactics to be fraudulent.

I have gone through a lot of hassles to get this cleared up. Spent money on postage, money order searches, and gas, not counting all of my time, and aggregation. I feel that I should be compensated, and that something should be done, to prevent this from happening to someone else.
