A predominant amount of minority voters consider themselves democrats. The reason behind this statistic is quite simple: The Democratic party has long endorsed policies that ensure civil rights apply equally to all individuals regardless of race. But what happens when a Republican infiltrates the liberal party and runs as a democrat? And what happens if that Republican is Scott Israel, a man with an incredibly robust history of racial discrimination?
Scott Israel Flip-Flopped To Capture Minority Vote
Scott Israel is running for Broward County Sheriff in 2012. The retired North Bay Village Police Chief originally ran for the position in but lost to incumbent Sheriff Al Lambarti. During that first campaign, Scott Israel switched his political affiliation. The switch was an attempt to gain a competitive edge on Lambarti, who had far more financial backing. For nearly thirty years before Israel, like Lambarti, was a registered republican. But when he realized he couldn't compete within his own party, Scott Israel decided to run on a democratic platform.
The flip is ironic because Scott Israel's past hardly reflects core-liberal values. Scott Israel has an incredibly long history of racially profiling individuals. As if profiling wasn't enough, Israel has also earned a notorious reputation for using excessive force on these individuals.
Scott Israel's Racist Past
Scott Israel was under investigation by the office of Internal Affairs ten times during his career. Every single one of these investigations involved a minority defendant.included among these investigations are six complaints of excessive force. One of these instances concerns an individual who was savagely beaten while handcuffed behind the back. Another involves a shoot out in a residential neighborhood. Another involves false arrest. And another involves use of (presumably racist) profanities.
The details of half of these investigations remain unknown because the IA files conveniently vanished from city archives. Many consider this a bit suspicious; By law Internal Affairs Investigations must remain on public record for fifty years after employment is terminated. Alarmingly, two of the five missing files concern the most serious charges: False Arrest and Theft. Also included among the missing files are detailed accounts of the language Scott Israel used while placing minority suspects under arrest.
Should Minorities Vote For Scott Israel?
Minorities account for 48% of the Broward County population. Many of these individuals vote for Democratic candidates, and Scott Israel is fully aware of this. Scott Israel plans to capture the minority vote by switching to the democratic party and covering-up the dubious nature of his past. Democrats of all ethnic backgrounds should do some serious research on this faux-liberal before casting their vote. Scott Israel is certainly not a friend of minorities or the democratic party.
