Becky Acord's daughter Taylor Wyman rode in the Massachusetts Horse Benefit Show in October. Becky pre-entered her daughter. When she picked up her daughter's exhibitor numbers at the secretary's booth the volunteer forgot to ask Becky for a check or cash.
The day after the show the mistake was realized. I tried to contact Becky for over a month. I finally reached Becky who told me she had paid and had her bank statement to prove it. She would not fax, email, or mail the bank statement.
I finally filed in small claims court against her but on the day of court my son was sick and I could not appear. A check from Becky for the $219 (It did not include the small claims court fee.) arrived in the mail two days after the court date. I deposited the check and on May 2, received it back with STOP PAYMENT on it.
Because she did not show up in small claims court either, the case was thrown out. When she received notice of this in the mail, she put a stop payment on the check.
So, now, she has taken $219 plus the $40 small claims court fee out of the mouths of horses. All the show's proceeds went to Blue Star Equiculture Draft Horse Sanctuary in Palmer. The $259 would go to feed the rescue horses.
She refuses to pay.
As a side, her daughter won well over $200 in prizes at the Benefit Show.
