Complaint / Review
Orphan Acres, Inc
Horses transferred to this "rescue" facility have been deliberately starved and shot

I contacted the Idaho State Dept. Of Agriculture on March 30 to file a complaint of animal cruelty and neglect at Orphan Acres, a purported rescue facility in central Idaho. I was an eyewitness to the deliberate cruelty and neglect at this facility. Orphan Acres has been under investigation by ISDA since March 30; the case number is AC09-0220 with ISDA. Please telephone their agency in Boise for confirmation at (208) 332-8540.

This facility misrepresents itself as a rescue operation and deliberately mistreats many of its rescued animals, specifically depriving special needs animals by deliberate starvation. This facility's website make claims of rescue and rehabilitation.in truth, this facility manifests the very conditions it claims to be protecting many animals from, and is soliciting for donations on the Internet and to the public and to charities and grant foundations as well.

The Humane Society of the United States is involved with the investigative efforts by state officials.

Please see http://crueltyatorphanacres. Blogspot.com for further information about this investigation and photos.

Issues include but are not limited to: housing of 11 stallions, accidental breedings, deliberate starvation of special needs animals, inhumane confinement, unsanitary and unsafe conditions, lack of shelter for the majority of animals, a private breeding operation which accounts for 2/3 of the animals purported to be "rescues, " inhumane euthanasia, improper disposal of carcasses, and fraudulent claims on its website such as associations with local law enforcement.
