We had the exact same experience last night as the gentleman from PA did. A young guy hit up our entire street saying he was going to work in London for the BBC. His parents were paying for the trip, but he wanted to help his fellow students by selling books and magazines. He made several points about his mom being embarrassed about him selling books and magazines to his neighbors for this trip so he was willing to also wash our car!
I asked his name and address again and gave his first name as Jason but quickly mumbled a last name saying he lived on a neighboring street that turned out NOT to be his house... It was a valid address, but was not where he lived.
After the sale (yes we fell for it) we wondered, he was pretty good, but some stuff just did not add up. Spoke with our neighbors and some of them fell for it too. We all called and stopped payment on our checks.
