The illustrious mayor of Townsend TN, in what used to be the beautiful county of Blount, has not only broken the law but has made it a point to ruin the character of Townsend.
For those of you who don't know, Mayor Skidmore is the owner/operator of Tri-County Portables. His lot is the one that resides in the old area of Townsend known as the Rock Pile just after Tuckaleechee Rd. And the Back Porch Resteraunt. Keep in mind, this is all going on in the "lower end" of Townsend.
Being the upstanding person that he is, Mayor Skidmore likes for people to see his out house business. This lot also resides next to Short Creek which feeds into Little River (Blount County's source for drinking water).
In front of Tri-County Portables is the proposed site for a "Welcome to Townsend" sign that TDOT has already informed the city of Townsend that they CANNOT put it there. So my question is: why would you not only spend taxpayer's dollars on a sign that can't be erected, but also why would you put the sign in front of the eyesoar known as Tri-County Portables?
Mayor Skidmore has already tried to bid on a sanitation service with the city which violated the 2006 Ethics legislation passed in this state.
He is also the owner of one of the tubing businesses which caused such a stir in Townsend last year.
Mayor Skidmore also has two trailors on this lot which goes against local city of Townsend ordinances concerning mobile homes. They are supposed to be in existing trailor parks only. But then again, Woodland Homes has a trailor on there proposed 66 condo property without permission proving the point that local laws only matter if you are LOCAL. If you are in the development or tourist industry and you are from somewhere else, then you can do whatever you want.
In the "upper end" of Townsend, next to the Burger Master, you will also see a bunch of junk that our illustrious mayor has piled up again. Amongst this clutter, which is a violation of local city ordinances, you will see two more trailors... Another violation of local city ordinances.
My problem isn't as much with "trailors" as it is with local politicians running their businesses froma government seat like Mayor Skidmore and several other NON-LOCAL transplants who have floated into Townsend.
If we are going to have rules, then they should apply to everybody... Even corrupt mayors who don't even have enough sense to conduct a council meeting. The last council meeting that I attended came complete with the mayor inquiring of the city recorder (no less than 8 times) "... What do we do Gwen?" You would think that after holding office for more than a year, he would have picked up on how to conduct a meeting and how legislation works.
I don't know why we should expect any more than this from a commission of people who don't have enough brains to read and understand the city charter or the State Constitution. They don't even realize at this point how passing the "International Building Codes" violates the State Constitution. I guess they'll get to find out the hard way the first time they try to come on my property without permission or a warrant.
Anyways... I just fealt compelled to inform the world of the criminal who is currently holding office as Mayor Of Townsend, TN. If you would like to read Mayor Shannan "What do we do, Gwen?" Skidmore's comments concerning City Police Chiefs who are to stupid to read the law, then check out the thread concerning Chief Ronnie "Spanky" Suttles.
Chalk this up to just more corruption in Blount County Government.
