I answered an employment ad on Craigslist titled "Personal Assistant" which soon transitioned to be "Director of Strategic Advertising and Fundraising." The weeks that followed were an absolute nightmare. As promised I showed up each morning to Elizabeth's home. (well actually, I found out later it wasn't hers at all.in fact she merely rents a room from Sam (Radical owner of the "Jesus is Lord" trucks) at 301 Sea Ridge Drive in La Jolla.) Her unprofessional manner both on the phone and in person was over-the-top. She would regularly scream at people claiming they were "incompetent and stupid." After two weeks, I asked to be paid as promised but was given many excuses. I worked another week with the promise of being paid Friday which never occured. On the following Monday morning I again showed up at her house, but on the way called to discuss payment. She claimed that I needed to provide her some sort of documented hours in order to be paid, so on the way I stopped at Office Depot to get just that. When I showed up I told her that we needed to address the issue of non-payment for the first few weeks and she became very hostile. She began yelling, calling me names, saying I was to "get to work" and that she was a "very busy woman who didn't have time for this." I explained I was not willing to come back to work until I was fairly paid as previously promised. She screamed that she would need to "audit" my hours and slammed the door in my face. About 20 minutes later, she emerged with a PERSONAL check for less that the amount owed stating that my hours were wrong. She was being so loud, in the typically quiet neighborhood, that neighbors began to perk up and take notice. While waiting in my car, a handyman that was doing some work for the woman accross the street approached me. When he saw Elizabeth, he recognized her immediatly as Betsy Duranty from Imperial Beach; a woman he had been hired by to do some home repair work. His story was that after she hired him, she asked to use a floor sander of his, returned it broken and then fired him. He said she was very nasty and threatening to him and that I should steer clear of her stating that "she is only trouble!"
While working for Elizabeth I was asked to collect donations for her non-profit, which as it turns out, wasn't "hers" at all. Grace Foundations, Inc. Is based out of Delaware - Note the loose NP laws there. I believe these donations were for her own benefit. I also was responsible for booking media coverage for events. These people were also NEVER paid! Instead she told them they'd receive "credits."
I believe she will try to continue her unlawful hiring, and fraudulent behavior all under the guise of being a "God fearing" Christian woman until we as a community get her to stop! Very SAD! For an individual who thinks of herself as being so intellegent she certainly hasn't impressed me or mastered "making an honest living" in life!
