I am an indepentant contractor seeking medical insurance for my wife and I and have been turned down twice in the last 2 weeks both from BCBS & Aetna; currently waiting on letters why I was denied. I feel cherry picking tactics of applicants is occurring. Both my wife/I are healthy both of our families life span history ranges from 80 to 92. I just had partial knee surgury (July 16) and had the other one done 3 years earlier. I was taking cholesterol medication and Lexapro to ease minor case of anxiety due to a stressful job and working many hours; both which I am no longer am taking. Other than that I am healthy and have paid premium monthly rates my entire working career since the age of 20; now we are 54 and can't find a carrier. I am healthy, wiling to pay the high costs of coverage ($700.00 to $1,000) and still can't get coverage; more reasons our country is in the state it is in due to unfair practices towards the working class. Who is monitoring the insurance companies to ensure unfair practices from screening companies and reviewing underwriters are not taking advantage of people? I for one am fet-up and frustrated with big corperations taking advantage of honest working individuals.
