I replied... And thru further emails an elaborate story was given, he was from Phoenix, AZ currently living in the UK, a 50 yo widower with a 9 yo daughter, Emily. He was working on a ship for APL Cargo Shipping Co in the UK, headed to Australia. He also had funds locked in his "lockbox" in his cabin.
His letters were truly romantic and in a month, he won my heart. His chat and messages were daily and so romantic, like a fairy tale. We were really getting along great. He even called me once though very briefly.
As time went on, the ship had mechanical problems and couldn't travel fast. Then there were sea pirates, not far from the ship, and they had to go to an island for safe harbor.
