This company posted on Career Builders, looking for a Personal Assistant/Admin. I filled out the application & recieved a call back from a man who called himself Michael Boule.
He stated that they recieved my application and was very much interested in having me as his personal assistant. He began telling me about the company, stating that the company was an IT firm that had been in business a little over 2 years and they were based in Canada.
He stated that they were going to be opening up an office here in my city, Downtown Jacksonville, Florida on October 22. He stated that I would be working from home for the first few weeks until the office opened up here in Jacksonville.
He then stated that I would be making a set amount every 2 weeks of $1500, $750 weekly. He stated that I would be working with people from all nationalities, cultures and backgrounds, and asked me if I would be able to do that. I stated to him yes.
He then stated he would be sending me an email with instructions, the company website address so that I could familiarize myself with the company and what it is that they do. He sent the email with instructions approximately 2 days later with my first task.
My first task was to look up all IT Technical firms, specifically in the Downtown area as well as any hotels in the Downtown area. The IT firm research had to have what the company offered, how much they charged for services the company location, phone number etc... The hotel information consited of me locating the hotels in the downtown area and finding the best rates possible as to make their transition alot smoother coming into the states.
I was up to 12 midnight doing the research and sent it back to him. He (Mr. Boule) called me to thank me the next morning and stated that every thing looked well. He stated that he would forward that over to the IT department there so that they could do further research.
He sent yet another email stating that he was going to be sending me a cashiers check for my first two weeks as well as money to get any type of office supplies that I would need to help me with further research and money for the contractor that he stated I would be meeting with prior to them coming.
He stated as soon as I recieved it to give him a call or email him and he would further instruct me as to what to do. I recieved the cashiers check via USPS certified mail. The postman stated that not only did I have to sign the statement he would take back with him, but the envelope that was staying with me as well.
I did as was instructed of me, opened up the envelope and there was a cashiers check made out in my name in the amount of $3990. I emailed him to let him know I recieved it and he stated that he wanted me to deposit it in my account. So I went to my Bank Navy Federal deposited the account and was told by the teller there would be a 2 day hold.
I stated to Mr. Boule upon emailing him back that there was a 2 day hold on the check. His response was ok and to let him know once it cleared, he would have further instructions. I depositied the check on That Friday so the funds would not be available until Tuesday.
Mr. Boule calls me on Saturday and asked me if I had on line banking and to check the status of the deposited check, he also at that point stated that he wanted me to do more research on other IT companies in the general area. I stated that I would and he stated that he was really looking forward to meeting me.
The check cleared on Tuesday and I was instructed at that point to take out $3500 and he would text my phone as to where the funds would be going. I asked him if I was going to be giving it to the contractor. He stated yes but that the contractor had some type of finding with furniture in Mexico and stated I would have to send it there. He stated that he would be sending me another check on the following week of $300.
I felt a little wierd but didnt question it, I just wanted to do an impressive job. I got the text msgs of 2 different people and was instructed to send $1700 to one and $1800 to the other both in Mexico. At this point I really began to feel funny but Mr. Boule calls me to make sure that I got the msg and stated for me to go now because the contractors were waiting.
I asked him why again they were in Mexico, he said they found a great deal on office furniture, and they wanted to take advantage of it so that they could hit there deadline. I went to Walmart as he instructed me to do and sent the money off. The next day I find out from my bank that the check was counterfiet. I have never heard of a counterfiet cashiers check.
I was stunned, dumb founded, I couldnt believe that someone would take advantage of an innocent person looking for work. I went to the police dept. And was told to go back to my bank and speak with a manager.
