International Marketing - World Perfume
Part of the World Perfume national scam beware

I recently went in for a job interview for asst. Manager with International Marketing, since I am new to Kansas City and in need of a job. I was informed after the second job interview that I was one of the people selected back for the managment training. I was told I would make $600/week after I completed manager training. I was extremely excited about this opportunity.

However, I called my mom to tell her how my first day of training went, and told her about this 'fun contest' they gave us on the first day, and she thought it sounded weird and somehow familiar. So, she decides to look them up on the Internet and sees several things that connect it to World Perfume, a national-level scam. I didn't believe it was the same company until I saw the evidence. Here's what happened to me and I'm going to show what I found from someone else talking about a completely different company.

Ad in local paper: Asst Manager, no exp needed, Phone #
First Interview: 5-10 minutes long, filled out questionaire about myself (to include Social Security #, which is illegal anyways), accepted back, no resume needed. Found out nothing about the company, pay, etc. Had to rate myself on my people-qualities.

Second Interview: 2 hours, "group interview". Orientation to the company, talk about pay etc. They talk about their consultant based in Phoenix, Dan Long. There are also two bottle in the room, one with yellow and white stripes, and another similar. One of them is the brand-name brand and all that is on the box is information about the copy-rights, etc. The second bottle, a rendition bottle, has ingredients on it, and someone in the room reads the ingredients, and one of the first one is butane. The guy leading the interview, Neal, draws everyone's attention to it. He then introduces the only rendition his company sells 'World Perfume.' He talks about the basics of the company and at the end calls people in 1 or 2 people at a time to inform them if they made it or not.

1st day of training: Talk more about fragances, informs the people who are there why they were chosen 'people-friendly and positive attitude.' Talks more about the company and the prices of the perfume. He talks more about the basic training (which is horrible aparently) and talks about the 3 phases of the training; marketing, management, & administration. He also makes someone in the class guess how many people would not be in the class the very next day, which of course he said was crazy, since it's such a good opportunity. At the end he brings up a 'fun contest.' He used those words. He wanted each person to sell so many of bottles of perfume to people they knew, people he refered to as FFAAR, the second type of accounts in their company. He said if the entire group managed to sell a total of 115 bottle, there would be total of $750 awarded to the top three sellers. We were told we would get the bottles after the order was completed.

After the meeting, I called my mom and she found out about the company, and here's what I found out about World Perfume's interview process.

First and Second Interview

Wednesday, October 23: First Interview
Thursday, October 24: Second (group) Interview

INTERVIEW Wednesday, October 23
(I interviewed alone, but some people interviewed in groups of two) Ms. Kukal had me rate myself from a 1 to 10. She also had me listt three qualities that describe myself.

GROUP (SECOND INTERVIEW) Thursday, October 24, 12 PM

The class started late, as we waited Ms. Kukal (SPSPSPSPSPSPS) made small talk.
Ms. Kukal (SPSPSPSPSPSPS) asked us to write this name down, it was very important: Dan Long, our regional manager, who is out of Scottsdale.
(NOTICE THE NAME IS THE EXACT SAME)

Ms. Kukal then said to also write this name down, Mark Larecy. Mark Larcey was a master perfumer, he left his company (Calvin Klein) and wanted to take the scents with him (I believe she said that she left and worked for "our company"). He was sued by "Calvin Klein". The court case went all the way to the supreme court. The supreme court ruled that you cannot patent a scent.
Ms. Kukal then showed us a bottle of an expensive cologne (it had yellow and white stripes), and one bottle of a cheap imitation, which also had yellow and white stripes. She asked us to read the bottle, which said that only the name and design of the box were patented. She pointed out the scent was NOT patented. She then had us read the ingredients in the cheap bottle and the warning. The cheap bottle had butane in it. "What does butane do?" She asked, "It catches on fire."
(EXACTLY HOW IT WAS EXPLAINED IN MY MEETING)

End message

After I saw that, I called the company to ask them, they told me more stuff, which I found correlated to other people's accounts with World Perfume. I only spent one day in training, and didn't get scammed as bad as some of the other people, but wasted my time. This is a warning to other people.
