I took my 1997 GMC 4x4 pick-up to this dealer to diagnose and repair an engine coolant leak. They diagnosed that the water pump was leaking and that the engine oil cooler lines were leaking. They replaced the water pump and charged me $447.85 for a new pump. (AC Delco Part # 89060527) plus $270 for labour. This same pump is available on-line for $121.
They further charged me $189.95 for a coolant flush. (labour $151.49!)
Total invoice was $1060.81.
When I arrived home the engine coolant was leaking worse than when I took it in. I noticed the coolant leaking from the radiator cap. I replaced the cap (Cost $10.78)
The coolant cap was probably the only problem right from the start.
Even if the pump was a problem I was ripped off at $447.85 to replace an item that the dealer probably gets at a cost about $100. Then to find that the problem was never fixed.
This is so very symptomatic of the vehicle maintenance industry in general where poot quality work is being done at exorbitant prices. Work is being proposed that is not required and customers are being ripped off.
