I booked a Transit Van with A1 National Van Hire because I needed to move.
I received a Booking Acknowledgement email which included all of the arrangements and details of the booking including the booking reference.
To all intents and purposes, I thought that I had a van which was to be delivered at 12pm on 1st Nov.
Within hours of booking, the company rang me to confirm my address.
Two hours after the van was due to be delivered I got a call from them saying that a van isn't available and that its not their fault because they never sent me a confirmation email... They then offered that there would be a van available if I was willing to drive 50 miles (100 miles round trip) to collect the van. After some negotiation they offered a £40 discount on the van which isn't nearly enough to cover the petrol it would cost me to collect the van.
As any other sane person would do, I told the company that I didn't want their van. They assured me that no money would be taken from my account and because they couldnt provide the van, they wouldnt charge a cancellation fee.
However, reading the reviews on here, I am fully expecting the money to be taken from me anyway.
So to A1 National, this is a warning. If you take so much as a penny from me then the next time we speak will be in court.
Furthermore, Customer service and Company Reputation both go a long way. So does being able to speak and write proper English.
I will never even consider using this company again. Luckily a local van hire company has sorted me out last minute. When I mentioned to them what happened they weren't surprised at all to hear this company had shafted yet another person.
