Dr. Barth ran an oncology practice with 2 or 3 other doctors and decided to close his doors. Patients who were not personally seen by him were not notified about the closure. His website said records would be forwarded to displaced patients' new oncologists at no charge which is usual and customary. There would be a $25 charge only if the patient wanted their own copy. Now his office is refusing to provide former patients' current doctors with medical records unless the patients pay $25. Many of the patients who were seeing the other doctors at Newport Pacific Medical Associates have followed them to their new practice and are being denied access to their records unless they fork over the ransom payment. This is just WRONG, not to mention UNPROFESSIONAL. As if having cancer isn't bad enough, he adds insult to injury and is impeding my doctor's access to my records and my medical care. It appears that he has now formed a corporation specifically to charge patients for their records and won't deal directly with a requesting medical facility - only the patient. This guy is seriously out of touch with the financial ramifications of cancer treatment and loss of work. He's just wants to wring every last dime out of his patients. SHAME on him.
