I was walking into a Walmart in Raleigh, NC when I was stopped by a man who claimed to be a working on a college scholarship program that would give $300,000 dollars to whoever reached a certain number of points out of 50 college students. Being that I am a college student I was inclined to believe that he may actually be in such a program, although I thought it odd that I had not heard of it in my own scholarship searches. Still, I understand the desire to have scholarships, and I felt that maybe it would be nice if I did donate. I didn't really want the magazine but I decided to go ahead and give him $20 upfront and save the rest of the $50 payment for after I verified that the company was legitimate. Thankfully I found this site before I sent in the last $30. This is the first time I have ever fallen victim to or even encountered a scam, so I am very glad that it was just $20 dollars lost. Still, I will be more wary the next time someone asks me for any kind of donation.
