I signed a contract with Mr. Adam Salviani, Company Director of Raider Publishing International, New York, for the publication of my book, The Tragedy of Kashmir, on the above date. As per terms of the contract, the book was to be published after a year. I paid a sum of 699 U.S. Dollars in advance. An additional sum of 299 U.S. Dollars was paid for fast publication in four months time. After a lot of correspondence, most of which was not answered at all, the book was put in the market for sale in Feb. 2011 without my knowledge. I never received the author's copies. I found the book full of spelling mistakes and omissions. Several requests to rectify the mistakes evoked no positive response. When I complained to the Better Business Bureau in New York. Mr. Salviani wrote to me on 10 November that he will take the following steps to compensate for the damages:
Issue a reprint of the book before end of the year 2011.
Offer me an advertising package over a thousand Dollars for extra promotion of the book at no charge to me.
Send me the free copies that I am entitled to.
Return the sum of 299 U.S. Dollars for fast publication.
Except returning the 299 Dollars, he did not keep any of his promises. My repeated pleas to him go unheard.in May he informed me that a total of 29 copies of my book were sold so far all over the world and my compensation amounted to $73.95. I have confirmed that over fifty copies have been sold from just one outlet in India. I did not accept the paltry sum.incidentally, the book was on Amazon bestselling list for ten days in General Category sometime back.
The book continues to be sold in the market. Mr. Salviani is sitting pretty after violating clauses of the contract that he has signed and taking advantage of my helplessness. He has ruined my three years work and taken my money. He should have at least the decency to refund the money that I have paid him.
It amazes me how easily one can get away in America, a country known for law and justice, after scamming people.
