I received a letter similar to Anne's but from a different company - Northam Assurance, Inc. The dollar amount has increase to $1,463.50 but the instructions were identical - deposit this "payroll check" into my checking/savings account, wait 12-24 hours, withdraw $970 plus $90 in cash and purchase a money order, send to Bejamin Jefferson in Atlanta, then call 289-892-5390 to confirm. The funny thing - this letter is riddled with grammatical and spelling errors! It's comical really. I knew instantly it was a scam. Prior to, I had been harassed by several cold calls from agencies saying they were "responding to my desire to further my education" and/or "responding to my inquiry to be a secret shopper." I must have filled out the wrong card somewhere along the way to warrant this much attention! End result - DO NOT process this check... As soon as you make the transaction, they have your account info and you are done!!
