Fake check for Mystery Shopper that almost put me in jail

The Northam Group sent me a Check for Mystery Shopping for Western, They Included my pay and the deposit that I was supposed to transfer. Since I am a mystery shopper I took the the check to the bank and was almost arrested for fraud.
