I received a call to authorize the cancellation of a "yellow pages public" listing that I did not recall ever signing up for — so of course i said to cancel whatever it was. But then they used a bunch of circular questions to get me to agree to have them send an invoice for 599.99 for the unpaid second year of the service. There was no way out of the conversation (with the person who barely spoke English) that didn't lead to an invoice being sent. I finally said "send it — but we're not paying for something we didn't sign up for" and then was put through to an authorizing agent to whom I could only answer yes or no questions. Today we received a call from a collections agent. My husband, wanting to protect the good credit of our company, paid the bill with his card. They played a recording of my voice, which my husband said sounded like they had abruptly cut at one point. I feel stupid to have fallen prey to this scam, but the calls were such a trap!
