Computer hackers stating they were ' MICROSOFT' and using MERCAWAY
Consumer Report

I had a telephone call stating they were MICROSOFT and that I had viruses in my computer.
They just asked me to turn on the computer so they could show me all the virus threats-which I did.
The lady asked me to press the windows and the 'r' key at the same time, which then showed me a box with yellow and red warning signs. (This got me worried) She asked me to count them and then said she needed to put me through to her 'supervisor in charge' as my computer was under serious threat and I could loose all my data.
The man introduced himself and stated he would get a support representative who would clean up my hard drive. But before we began, he got me to purchase a"one year support service" (computer security) which he proceeded to put into a shopping cart from a French company called MERCAWAY. At this point I became worried and when I stated that I was concerned this could be a scam, the man laughed and got me to write down his name, phone number and said I could phone the company which is (apparently) based in Melbourne.???
All of a sudden my printer printed off the invoice to this company with the fee of $99.99 US (from my master card, which I had foolishly typed in!)

I was told not to touch the mouse, as the technition, who called himself 'Michael Clark', went through the process of 'cleaning' my computer. All of a sudden my mouse could be controlled by Michael Clark.
He requested the following off my computer;memory information, scheduled tasks, operating system, CPU, disc drive and recent events info.
The session that started at 5.58pm ended at 2.05am!!!

The following day I rang my service provider (reliable, well known Telstra) who
proceeded to get rid of the 'mess' that these crafty, sneaky, convincing HACKERS had done to my computer.
Im now in the process with my bank to retrieve my money, and keeping an eye on my on-line banking!!!
Beware!!! We are living in a very untrustworthy world
