I was contacted through the mail by Barbara Spencer with an offer for emploment as a "customer service evaluator". A large check and contact information was enclosed. Upon calling, I spoke with a Barbara Spencer about the position. When asked, she informed me that she saw my resume on Indeed.com a website I was using in my job search.
I was told to deposit the check and withdraw funds to complete two financial transactions. Basically, I was to wire-transfer money through two local Western Union locations. After completing the task, I had to send the receipts by fax back to her. I called her afterwards and was informed that I would be receiving an employment package detailing the responsibilities for the job. The package was never sent.
About two weeks later, my bank (USBank) discovered the check was fraudulent and they deducted the amount from my account. This left me owing the bank about a thousand dollars.
Barbara Spencer is preying on job seekers and emptying their bank accounts when they need it most. This scam will leave you with little or no recourse to either recover your money and will kill your credit score.
