On February 2, I was preparing dinner for my family. My 6 year old son was playing in the living room when he came and told me that someone was at the door. I opened the door and immediately assumed by the young bubbly girl that she was going to try and sell me something.
She told me that her name was Ouida Arnold and she was trying to sell magazines to win a trip. She said that she only needed a few more points in order to beat the boys. She showed me the prices, which I thought were high, and began to write out a receipt. At this point I had not agreed to anything. She listed three magazine subscribtions, which totaled over $100.00. I told her that I could not make any decisions without speaking with my fiance. She continued to show me what wonderful deal it was and begged me to order so she would be able to go on this trip.
I gave in and told her that I would buy one subscribtion. I wrote her a check for $44.00 which included a $10.00 processing fee. I have not received the magazines which on the receipt, stated allow 90-120 days. There was not a number on the receipt, so today I tried to locate a website for the company and was unsuccessful. To my amazement, the only thing that I found were letters from people that thought they were doing a good deed for a teenager but instead got ripped off.
This infuriates me and I will never hear the end of it when I tell my fiance about this sham. He told me I shouldn't have spent $44.00 on magazines in the first place. I guess that I have learned a hard lesson.By the way, instead of a smiley face, she put a heart where I signed my name and also a "bug off" on the door.
