I placed a telephone call from a public phone booth in Ottawa, ON to 2 hrs. Driving distance away. There was no answer, the answering machine came on. I hung up. The charge on my credit card is $10.14, a charge I consider excessive for the length of the call. I talked with Bell.ca public telephones. I talked with WIMACTEL twice. I was told by WIMACTEL that the breakdown was $1.98 for the call, $6.09 operator surcharge plus $1.17 tax. I spent approximately three hours on the phone and internet trying to get phone numbers and talking to people, a frustrating experience.
