John Wofford
Consumer Report

Scammed by someone going by the name Stg John Wofford, also claiming he left his car at Ft. Lewis base, WA, that the car would be shipped from there, we wired the money to a third party (Denise Reese) in Spain. After the money was wired he claimed he needs us to wire an additional $1,100 for "insurance" to ship the car. Requested a refund... Haven't heard back since. Read below for exact email:

This 2006 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, runs and drives excellent. It has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, Only 65,300 miles! Transmission is Automatic shifts smoothly and the 4x4 operates perfectly. The interior is all original. The truck has all of its original floor mats all books, complete set of tools and keys. Everything works in the truck lights, gauges, radio, seats, windows, locks, a/c blows ice cold, etc... It has no leaks or drips and does not smoke at all, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions with a clear title free of liens. I bought it when I was serving in Fort Lewis, U.S. Army base in Washington and now I am deployed in Madrid, Spain. The truck will be delivered from WA, US.

I have dropped my price to $2,200 (purchase price) since this is an Urgent Sale! And I need to sell it before March 9th, when I will be deployed in Afghanistan with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home.
If you're interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your: Full Name and Shipping address, to open a case with Google Checkout. They will contact you to explain the entire procedure. The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 10 days inspection period before committing to buy the truck.in this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.

Hope to hear from you soon!
Sgt. John Wofford
PS: I have made a photobucket album for the truck: http://s1057. Photobucket.com/albums/t386/JohnToyotaTacoma/

THEN:
Please take a few moments and read my email truckefully, I know it is long, but I will explain all the details about the truck and the transaction.
At the moment I'm stationed at Madrid, Spain making final preparations before deploying to Afghanistan with the U.S. Convoy.

The truck is already at our Military Logistic Department in Fort Lewis, U.S. Army Base, crated and ready to go. The Logistic Department will deliver the truck to your home. The shipping is free for you. Since the truck is in a military base, with no
access you can not go there and take it, only the Logistic Department can deliver it, because the truck is in their custody.
Shipping may take anywhere between 2 to 4 business days depending on the destination. All documents you need for ownership, manuals and bill of sale will be provided along with the truck.
For the payment I would like to use Google Checkout as a third party. They will keep your money into a protection account until you get the truck and will release it to me after inspection period is over and you agree to keep the truck. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the truck before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 10 days to inspect the truck. If you decide not to keep it Google Checkout will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for both of us.

I'll start the official procedure, and Google Checkout will contact you about this. If you are interested in buying it just mail me back with:
- Your Full Name - Required by Google Checkout (You'll receive important guidelines instructions from them.)
- Your Shipping Address and Phone Number - Required by the Logistic Department (They will call you with delivery/pickup instructions 1 day ahead so you can communicate what time schedule work best for your to receive the truck)

Again I want to point out that because I am going to Afghanistan this sale is my top priority and I am looking after a fast transaction, with no delays. That is why I decided to lower the price, to avoid wasting time with negotiations and find a buyer as soon as possible.

Thanks, hope to do business with you soon!

FINALLY:
Hi,
The shipping was started Today but I'm sorry to tell you this but I've received an e-mail from Google Checkout today, requesting from me a payment of $ 1,100 for insurance purposes.
The truck has indeed an insurance but since it's market value is over $8.000 and it's being sold for only $2.200, currently it doesn't cover all it's value, so they have asked the same amount from me (as the seller) and you (as the buyer).
You will receive back the amount sent as soon as you'll receive the truck, so you will only need to send it to Google Checkout for a few days and you will get it back no matter if you buy the truck or not. I have just sent my part an hour ago.
Sorry for this inconvenience but I really didn't knew that we have to insure the truck to its real market value.

Thanks

Be aware of this con! He's on craig's list!!!
