Nissan has an acknowledged design defect with their xterra vehicles. Fluid from the radiator drains back in to the transmission causing it to fail resulting in having to replace the transmission. They have agreed to make some adjustments to vehicles with up to 80,000 miles but this does nothing for most of the owners with the issue as the vehicles have more than 80,000 miles. They should have done a recall as this involves a serious safety issue as well, but they never even bothered to notify owners. Had they, then the issue could have been fixed at the owners expense before costly damages resulted.
