A man in his 20s came to the door, explaining that a professor in his Communications/public speaking class was having them go door to door selling magazine subscriptions which would ultimately be donated to veteran's hospitals. The student who has the most sales would win a study abroad trip to France. Since I attend the same university he claimed he was studying at, The University of Oklahoma, I asked to see a student ID, some information from his professor or at least the professor's name. He claimed he left his wallet at home and didn't know Professor Smith's first name. I should have asked to see his license to sell door to door as granted by the Norman, OK Commerce, but I didn't think about it in time. Later I called the Oklahoma City Better Business Bureau who claimed to have no record of this company in our area. Fearing it was a scam, I reported the solicitor to the Norman Police Department and placed a stop payment on my check so that I only lost out a thirty dollar fee, not the whole check amount.
