This is ongoing with my elderly mother. She truly thinks she has won a large sum of money from these scammers and refuses to believe they ARE a scam... So she continues to write them $24.95 checks. She thinks by doing this, she is guaranteeing she will receive the funds. The sad thing is she is doing this to help me now that I am disabled and living on monthly what I used to make weekly. She will NOT listen when I tell her this is a scam AND she is SWAMPED with junk mail now and refuses to believe there is not only such a thing as a Sucker List but also that she is on it and that's why she gets literally armloads of mail every day. This makes me physically sick to my stomach when I try to help her with the onslaught of mail and it totally pisses me off that her heart will not only be broken when she finally realizes she's been taken, but that the embarrassment for her will be debilitating. That is not something she ever could handle well and the older she gets the less ability she has. This is exactly the sort of situation that can completely unravel her. The scumbags who run these scams have no souls or they could not do this to anyone, let alone the elderly who fall prey to them the most often in their desperation to rise out of poverty level retirements resulting from the contrived economic collapse in the U.S. Combined with the constant threat that they will not only never see another COLA but that their tiny checks will be deeply cut.
