In January I open a small non-profit business. I got from a credit card machine company offering a credit card machine and for a monthly fee and in exchange they would give the business a desk top computer. The catch was that the CC machine was on a two year non cancelleable cantract, with a two hundred dollar penalty for earlier cancelation. I agreed and about a year and ahalf in because I was not using the machine and the cost was about $90.00. I sent the machine back along with the $200.00. I thought no more about until reconciling my bank statement a few months later and notice the company had cantinued to charge me fo rthe machine. I telephoned the company and spoke to a saleperson who stated I had not sent the proper cancellation letter along with the machine.
In compliance I wrote and faxed a cancellation letter to the company thinking everything was good. Last year I applied for an appartment and after the landlord ran my credit he found and out stand debit the bought my credit score down below 590. I got the information on the debit and found it to be an affiliate of the Internation Leasing Center, CDRS Inc a collection service that claimed I owed an additional two years on the contract approcimately $3600.00.
My first reaction was that I was a dummy for signing up so in order to get my credit back in shape I began paying. To date I have paid the secound company $700.00 and the first company about $4,300.00.
I stopped paying a couple of months ago because I felt like these people are truely trying to take advantage of me. Everyones credit is important and so to discredit a person in this way is devistating. Also if this company has done this to me they will have a track record.
