Octopus Purchase

We ordered a medium sized octopus for $70, leaving a $35 dep). When we actually got the octopus it was very small, but since I left a deposit I had to take it according the owner of the store. We took the octopus home (with many gadgets to keep it alive and healthy - and followed all of Jeff's instructions to the tee as well as having our fish tank water tested. With our fish tank water being at it's perfect levels, we took the octopus home on 10/13.

We fed it clams (as per the store owners recommendation) on Saturday 10/15 afternoon and by Saturday 10/15 it had died. Today Sunday 10/16 we brought the octopus to the store as well as another water sample. Jeff didn't even want to discuss the matter with us and basically told us his store offers no refunds or store credits and has no idea what we may have done to kill the octopus. My kids were saddened by his cold demeaner and they tried to explain that we did everything he told us to do to ensure the well being of the octopus. Not to mention they paid for it from their savings. He said that he "will not eat the cost of the octopus" and this was his store policy.

I found his way of handling the situation unsettling and outright mean. Especially that kids were involved. We paid for something promised to be a lot bigger than it actually was, and then it died within two days. I feel he should be somewhat responsible for his merchandise and held accountable.
