After a major rain storm we called our insurance company to repair our bathroom which was soaked from torrential rains. We had engaged a friend to help us replace cabinetry and repaint those areas needing repainting.
The insurance company opted to turn down our painter and bring in their own painter. Their painter informed us that they would have to repaint the outside of the house due to a poor quality paint that had been used before. Again, the insurance company assigned QFB to do this work.
They also saw fit to enter an interior closet and remove the clothes from that closet... We didn't ask them to do that, they charged us for removing the clothes. I informed them that they did not have to paint our commode walls and they said that was part of what the insurance company told them to do.
At the end of the job, we received a check from the insurance company and gave the majority of it to the painters (replacing the cabinetry accounted for some of the monies). They then presented us with a bill for over $2000 for the painting of these walls and the outside.in a natural disaster we should not have to pay anything out of the pocket. I explained this to QFB and they insisted we pay them.
I went to the insurance company and questioned them and they removed a very small portion of the bill (still over $2000). I told QFB that I was unemployed and so was my wife. Their attitude did not change, so much for empathy or sympathy. I brought this to the attention of the Better Business Bureau and, since they were on long standing good terms with the painter, the case was dismissed.
They have since sent a collection firm after us. Granted the collection company is not harassing us, but they are still asking for an unjust amount of money. You cannot take money "from a stone".
This was a natural disaster and we should not have to pay anything for the remediation and paint job. Our insurance company has not allowed us to renew our policy.
