I can not believe that this company continualy gets away with this. All these stories and they are all pretty much the same complaints!
I was hired with Family Dollar in March of and I was verbaly told by my D.M. (Bobby Bills), that I would receive one weeks paid vacation after one year service.
I also came into the company as a professional manager of 23 years and turned the store around and had 30% increases in sales and the store loked the best it had ever looked.
There was a contest for the highest increase in comparable sales for the previous year in all regions. I had ranked in the highest increase but to no avail no winner. (Not a big deal)
But I was working an average of 70 hours a week, alot of times 85 hours a week. The labor budgets for these stores are designed to kill the manager.
In November I told my DM that I was giving my two week notice because I had absolutley no life other than work, not to mention that it was killing me.
The DM comes back to me and asks me to stay, and they would do anything that they could to keep me.
Ultimately the DM offered me an additional $500.00 a week in labor manhours to keep me and free up some time for me.
What happened was since we had the extra labor in the store the sales continued to increase, sometimes as much as 50% in one week. Since the store was so much busier i did not have any more free time to myself.
The 1st week in March I was told that help was being taken away because they could not afford it, even though the store was making more profit then the year before. So the saga continues.
I immediately told my DM that he knew my stance on this and I would not do it, and I was giving my two weeks notice.
I then told them that my last week I would be taking my paid vacation. The DM had his assistant call me and inform me that If I went on vacation it would be without pay because I could not take my vacation until I worked for the company for 15 months.
So here are two occasions where they made a verbal contract with me (which is legally binding in the state of New Mexico), but failed to honor it.
I have emailed the DM and the company on this matter but they refuse to answer.
This company is a joke and they have no respect or moral obligations to their employees.
I wish I knew how to put a stop to this or let the public know.
