Consumer Report

Received a call on cell phone from a man identifing himself as Gilbert Scott with UPS, and were trying to make a delivery to me at my former business, with notification that I was the winner of a Wal Mart Mega Million Dollar give away sponsored by credit card companies. This was due to using my credit card at a Wal Mart in 2009. He needed me to decide if I was to come to New York to receive the money, at Bank of America or to do it locally. If doing it locally, a special seal was needed to verify getting the check to my bank. Of course this was all made to sound very legitimate: taxes would be withheld, what charitiable organization would we donate to and could we put the money to good use. He was very businesslike and personable. Of course he denied that this was not a scam and gave me his phone number, requision, id and confirmation numbers of all kinds. My next step was to wire transfer $585.00 thru Western Union to Douglas Beckman in Fresno, CA. And UPS would be deliving the notification to me later today. I told him that I was at least 20 minintes away from a Western Union, as I was out of town. He was to call me back when I got to the Western Union and he would be on the phone with me during completing the Sender form for the money order. I still had doubts and when he called back I told him that I did not have enough funds, I only had $280 and inquired as to why I couldn't pay for this out of the winnings or I would just go to New York to collect the check. He said that the requisite for the seal had already been confirmed and could not be changed. He then ask if I couldn't come up with $300, but I would still have to pay the remaining $285 later, which I agreed too. I then was instructed to go home and wait for UPS for delivery, they never showed. I just received a phone call from a Wendy Jones claiming to be with Western Union and stating that the money order never went thru and I would be receiving my money back within 3 to 4 days and would have to be resending my money that someone would be contacting me tomorrow morning.in the meantime I check with Western Union on line and with a live representive and the money order did go thru. He advised that this was probably the scammers in an attempt to get more money. Unfortunately, for me wanting to beleive that something good had come my way I am out $300 plus the $24 fee, which I could not really afford.
