I gotconned today. Two handsome, smooth-talking and flirtatious young men came to mydoor explaining some contest they were in whereby they get to go to Italy ifthey win. It's selling magazines but it's a charity see, tax deductible (or soI was told). You order magazines that will be sent to one of our troop members. They have great ratings by the BBB I was told. I wrote a couple of checksthinking I was helping these kids, the troops, and getting a tax deduction! After they left I started researchingthe company, MTS Circulation, and found tons of complaints and reports about them being ascam. I checked the BBB and not only are they not accredited, but the BBB ratesthem as an "F" — again tons of unresolved complaints. I called mybank immediately and put a stop payment on the checks. Expensive lesson — eachstop payment cost $30. Be WARNED about earnest looking and slick soundingpeople coming to your door to sell magazines!!!
