MFA/United Family Circulation appears to be a national scam for selling magazines to charitable homes.
Two young men came to my door last week, claiming to be from the neighborhood over and were selling magazines to earn money to go to a soccer championship. Foolishly, I invited them into the foyer since it was in the 90's. The one young man spoke quickly and full of information about his mom & dad, how hard he works to earn money, etc. They moved into the house and tried to get to a table, but I stopped them a little bit inside where they stood on each side of me. Their spiel was very fast and loose, speaking of military parents, supporting the troops, and talked me into sending magazines to service people since I didn't need any. Because of their stance I was very intimidated by them, being a woman home alone. The one man filled out all the paper work, never let me see what he was doing, then announced I needed to wrote two checks to M.F.A. For over $200 each. I asked for a receipt, but they said it would be mailed in a week. I asked their names, but they would only give me their first names. I wrote the checks to get them out of the house.
Later I saw that the police had ticketed them for soliciting without a license, and they told the police their boss doesn't bother because this area is so lucrative. I went to the bank to have my checks stopped after reading the multitude of complaints online. They never gave me any paperwork or number to call to cancel my "order".
I wouldn't be surprised if the positive write ups on this site from sellers were posted by people in their company trying to scam this site!
