Suburban Propane-1728
Billed for Never Used Propane

We moved to Wilmington, NC 28403 in June. On 24 August we paid $137.23 to Suburban Propane with check #8379. I'm not sure what this was for, but it could have been for the safety check performed on 10 August. On 16 August the company measured the gas in the tank we rent from them and said they delivered 200 gallons of gas for a total with tax of $581,63. I cannot remember the reason for the difference between the bill printed on site on the 16th, and the official bill dated 27 August for the amount of $563.61 which we paid on 27 August with check #8388. On the on-site bill it states, gas in tank when brought to yard, and I believe the company reimbursed the previous owners for the gas remaining in the tank. After the first visit, the technician said the tank we rent was very old and rusty and they would put in another one. I don't remember the date the tank was replaced. A technican checked all the connections except for the greenhouse and said everything was in working order. He showed Mrs. Wright how to turn on the gas in the fireplace. However, the fireplace was never used and the pilot light was never turned on. On 15 February, a technician showed up, filled up the tank and billing us for $164.67 for 50.7 gallons of gas. We protested since we never used any gas since moving into the house. Checking the valves, and using a bottle of detergent, the technician checked the connection in the greenhouse and noted it was not turned on, the connection outside the house which feeds the fireplace was also not turned on, however the guage at the tank itself was leaking in multiple places. Since we rent this tank, we do not feel we should pay for gas we didn't use which dissipated due to poor connections which were the responsibility of the utility company. Today, 24 March we received an adjused bill from Suburban Propane giving us a $60.00 goodwill adjustment on the $164.67. Since we used no gas, there is no goodwill. What should be do?
