I had an appointment with one Lawyer in Bolivardplaats this morning. We agreed on meeting between 8.00 and 9.00 am because I have a class from 9.00. I got there at exactly 8.00am. I was told by this Lawyer to report at the reception and they will notify her. When I got there, although I speak not good Nederlands, because I am still learning, I tried to speak the language with one of the receptionist, before I could conclude, she asked me to use my own phone to contact the Lawyer or sit down at the canteen and wait. She brushed me off and quickly added to one "white" lady who was behind me. She also requested to see someone. To my surprise the receptionist pickup the phone and informed the person on the other line that a lady is waiting. I waited till she finished with her, then I asked why I am an exception. She quickly started shouting and ordering me to get away and go and sit where she asked me to sit. All efforts to explain that the Lawyer herself asked me to let them inform her when I get to there. I asked it is was in regards to my colour or because I didnt speak goed Nederlands. This time I was speaking English because I had run out of words in Nederlands. I said to her that I will make a report and even asked for her name, but she refused to give me her name. She got angry and picked the phone up to call the Lawyer and report me instead. It went to answering machine and I left a message that I was having problems with the receptionist. They were 2 there, but the order one said nothing to me, but they spoke among themselves. When I was leaving the message, the receptionist was shouting at me that I should not lie. When I finished I was so angry at her calling me a liar. I walked away and went to the canteen to sit. At around 8.40am, there was still no sign of the Lawyer. I used my last credit on the phone to call and find out because class would begin in 20mins. As soon as she picked up, she started shouting that the appointment was not for 8.00am and that she would have been on her bed at that time and that it was up to me if I was to wait or go away. I realised she has been misinformed about what happened at the reception, she then hanged the phone on me. 7mins later there she came complaining that her colleagues are very angry. I responded so am I. But she quickly cut me and said she is not interested in listening to whatever happened and if I want I can go on and tell her about what brought me to her or I can just go away. I was speechless for a moment. I then asked her whether she is willing to help me, and she answered "not anymore" I just said thanks and walked away. Before I got out I of the building I decided to go back and collect the documents we faxed to her, but instead she gave me another documents that belongs to someone else. I told her those were not mine. She asked if my name was not 'Janeatte' or so, but it is not. I wanted to avoid any further argument, so I left the building. I really would like to complain to someone at the top. But I feel they would not listen to a commoner like me, especially if I want to complain about a Lawyer, someone who contributes more to the society than I do. Do I have any right to complain and if so where can I do that. I have searched on the internet for complaint office of Justitie Paleis in Antwerpen, but there seem to be nothing like that.
