I received a letter with a check enclosed. The letter informed me that the enclosed check for $3,250.00 was a deduction from my total Grant award of 25,000.00. The $3,250 check is to be used to assist me in paying the Disbursement and Processing Fees ($2,800.00) for this award. These fees according to the letter are manditory, and serve as a verification method and establishes the legitimacy of my claim award.in order to activate the account, the letter informed me to call 1-289-892.4038 and speak with the Claim Manager (Frank Daniels). I was to give him the Claim number, which is 3114. I did call, but I have not deposited the check. I do not believe the check is valid, so I called back today, 7 July to question the validity of check. I spoke with a Dave, who informed me that Frank Daniels was not in, that he (Dave) did call the person who initiated the check, but he was not in either, and that I should call back at 1200 noon today, 7 July and he would have an answer.
I have not deposited the check because it is a check I did not expect to get, and I'll be held responsible for it should it bounce. Plus, I am not fortunate enough to win anything. Additionally, I have never applied for any kind of Grant, Home Improvement or otherwise. I doubt this kind of action will ever be stopped, but I trust that this information will be helpful to others.
