Complaint / Review
David Brownstone
A con artist, lia

This is to confirm the report from another person.

I met David Brownstone about 18 years ago a Los Angeles Pierce College. He said he had just left the military and had served in Germany. He can speak German.

He is charming, attentive and promptly tries to dominate your life. He attempted to start a number of business ventures and wanted me to help him with my work effort for which I was paid a minimal amount. He also wanted me to loan him money to promote his business ventures and to pay bills. Occasionally he would pay me back small amounts.

Eventually I stopped my association with him when he became abusive if I did not do as he wished. At that time he owed me about $700.00. I took him to small claims court and he did not show up so I won a judgement against him. He then moved. At the time he was living with his mother, Shirley, who lived in Reseda, Calif. I believe she threw him out. I had trouble finding him to collect my money. He registered his car at a false address. I found him by checking the voter registration list. He was living in Los Angeles. I then served him again to appear in court to reveal his assets. Again he did not show up so a warrant was issued for his arrest. He found out about this warrant and contacted me and gave me a check which I promptly cashed. I have had no further contact with him.

He claims to be any number of fantastic persons. Mostly he claims special military service. He told me he was involved in the invasion of Grenada and was injured although I never saw a scar. When I last saw him he claimed to have an honorary MBA from UCLA, supposedly given him for his service in Iraq. When I knew him he was supposed to be in the reserve and was supposed to show up for weekend drills. He often did not attend these drills and once had me contact his sargeant, claiming his step-mother was deathly ill and he had to go to Texas.

He often claims illness in relatives to get out of commitments. He once told me his mother was very sick, in the hospital but when I called the hospital they had no record of her admission.

He may have an attraction for young girls. Once he asked to use my apartment to meet with some special military commander. I thought that sounded strange but I said OK. Later he told me that the commander had not been able to come but he had a young girl from my apartment complex come over. He apparently had a cousin in the movie industry and he used this fact to lure the girl over. I later found a piece of paper on which he had written the girl's measurements. The parents actually filed a complaint but nothing came of it.

If you encounter this person, first, you must not let him control your life. Set firm boundaries and stick to them. Don't let him talk you into things you don't want to do. Don't believe most of his stories. Regard them as stories, entertaining, but fictional. Never loan him money. I was lucky to get my money back.

Take care out there.
