Ad bad fall

I had just started a job out at the college, working at a book store. I was on my 3rd week of work. I was walking on the side walk and trip on a part that was slightly raised. I went down hard and would have probably stay down there for a while if it were not for these worker that were installing new material in the eating hall. When I got up and hopped to my work place which was right on the side of the walk that I had the fall. I stay on the job that day in much pain made 4 hrs of pay. I could not make it back to my truck and had no one to call. So my boss went and got my truck and brought it to me. Had a hard time getting up in it but I made it home. It was still bleeding so I put an ice pack on it went to bed in hope that it woulf get better which it got its coloring back after two months but the pain is still tere and will most likly stay with me. Needless to say I couldn't go back to work the next day and the rest of the month. Loss the job. I called the college to see about their injuried insurance and they gave me the phone number. I called and hetook my information and sent me a letter the following week and told me how sorry he was that I had been injuried and that he had seem the police report and that he was sorry but the college fall under some kind of ordanance that in other word mean that you can not sue a community college. I have tried calling a lawyer to see if this is for real but no one will hear my problem. I have paid taxes all my life to this college and this is the way they treat an ederly person. All I want to know is can they really not have to take reponsilbity for my injuries?
