Paint that Pottery
Ruined my wedding shower and plans for my wedding reception

I planned a wedding shower at Paint that Pottery in Mobile, AL on February 6th. All of my friends and I were going to paint flower vases for my wedding reception. I went there in December to plan the shower and told them about 20 girls were expected. Lynn (owner) was not in but spoke with one of employees. She told us to come back a week before the shower and pick out the vase I wanted. I went in December 29th to pay the $50 deposit, again Lynn was not there but was never told or signed anything that stated this deposit was nonrefundable. I was told again to come back a week before the shower, that would be plenty of time. I went on January 28th and talked about the shower to Suzanne, another employee. She told me she did not have that many vases in stock, but Lynn was on her way to the studio, I could wait and speak with her.

Lynn arrived about 30 minutes later and was in a rush to work a party, which she was late for. She made me wait about another 20 minutes and told me she would have to order them. She would call her rep that night and call us the next day. I never received a phone call. I went back January 29th and picked out colors with Suzanne and was told that Lynn did not call her rep the night before but spoke with her that morning and she could get the vases. I told Suzanne that I would call her back with a total amount of girls so that she knew how many vases to order. I called her about 1 later and was told that I would have to pay a $50 shipping charge because it was a short notice to order that many vases. Again, we were told 3 different times to come in a week prior.

I told Suzanne that was not going to work and I was not paying for their mistake. Suzanne told me that Lynn would not budge on this charge and I told her I would not either, we would just cancel the party. At this point I was completely upset because my shower was in a week, I had no shower, my invitations were ruined and I had 6 days to plan something else and not to mention my plans were ruined for my wedding reception. I called another paint studio and thankfully they let me have a shower there. I had to call all 20 girls and tell them plans changed and that my shower was an hour later. I received a phone call on January 30th from Lynns employee stating that she was sorry to hear about the mix up and that Lynn would waive the shipping fee. I told her I appreciate that but I had already made alternate plans.

However, I would like to express my concerns with Lynn please have her call me and that I would come in there next week to pick up my $50 deposit. At no point did the girl say this fee was nonrefundable. I went to the studio on asked to speak with Lynn, which had not bothered to return my call from January 30th. Later that afternoon Lynn called and was very rude to me. She basically said it was my fault that I waited so late to pick what I wanted. She said she tried to work with me and would waive the shipping charges. I tried to explain that I was unhappy and that time was not on my side. She did not want to hear it, told me I was wrong and that the deposit was nonrefundable but she would issue gift certificates. Told her I did not want to come back to her establishment, she said thats what she would do and thats final. She said it was written on her website.

I looked at her site and it did not say nonrefundable, it said the $50 would go towards the price of the party. I copied and pasted that into an email to my sister, Kati Nelson. After speaking with Lynn I was very upset at the way I was treated, voiced that to my sister. Kati then called and left a message for Lynn. Today, February 3rd, Kati still had not heard back from Lynn, she called again and spoke with an employee, voiced her concerns and asked that Lynn call her back. Lynn finally returned her phone call, was extremely rude to Kati. She talked over her, would not let her speak, said that I could have gift certificates and that was final. And hung up on her. I checked her website today, and she went in and added that the $50 deposit was nonrefundable. She obviously didnt know that I had already emailed someone where it did not have that stated. I am extremely upset with the way I have been treated and I think she does a very poor job of running her business. I will dispute these charges and hope to get my money back.
