Pool Service America is a total ripoff that misrepresents itself and has unfair pricing practices.
Their advertising, sales pitch and website all promote the company as having been in business since 1980 and that they have decades of experience. This absolutely is not true!!! What they are trying to claim and take credit for is the success of another pool company, Essig Pools which sold their pool cleaning division to James Hawkins who then created the company Pool Service America in 2006. Pool Service America have no connection at all with Essig Pools. None of the employees nor managers of Pool Service America ever worked at Essig Pools.
Pool Service America uses unfair pricing practices in their service plans:
- Customers are required to sign a three month contract.
- Customers must pay a month in advance before services are rendered.
- If the customer doesn't use a credit card, he must pay the month in advance AND a security deposit equal to one month (which is cashed immediately).
- Customers will continue to be charged month to month in advance after the end of the contract, unless they notify Pool Service America in writing well in advance.
- New customers who require extra cleaning or chemicals to balance their pool have to pay in advance as well. They are still charged their weekly cleaning service fee in addition while the pool is being balanced.
- Customers are charged different amounts depending on the month. The contract states a specific amount but in small print under it is stating "in a four week month."
- Factoring in the average, not the contractually stated, monthly contract cost, Pool Service America is $45/mo or 53% more than the average contract price of any of its competitors.
