We purchased our Dutch home in 2006. Moving in in March. The dealer we purchased the house from went bankrupt shortly thereafter. While he was still in business, he was quite good at sending someone out when we reported a problem. But of course, many of the issues that have been noted have been noticed over time. I wrote to the manufacturer but received a registered letter telling me the one year warranty time had expired. I wrote them back telling them of all of the problems we were experiencing and that even though the warranty was no longer in effect I felt their product was seriously the poorest quality out there. I never received any response from them.
No new home should have the deficiencies we have in this home. I realize we are going on 4 years here, but until now, I never realized there was some place to file a report.
Our house is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath modular. My husband and I are a retired couple so there are not a lot ofpeople or children living here to cause any major damage. We are also fairly particular and take good care of most everything we have. Following is a long list of current problems:
Bathroom #1: Quarter round is cut too long and not attached, just laying there. Trim in the closet fell off. Vanity is approximately 1/2 inch away from the wall. Ceramic tile is put on with caulking and caulking is falling out. There is a large crack between the backsplash and counter. Counter is very cheap, poor quality.
Laundry Room: Had to replace faucet in laundry room sink, the original was completely falling apart. Laundry room sink is stained and will not come clean. There are 3 holes in the closet floor where they mistakenly put the hot water heater that was supposed to go in the basement in the first place. Had to replace the clothes hanging bar in closet because the original pulled out of the wall.
Family Room: Had to replace the patio doors because they warped and wouldn't open. It cost $1500. Large crack (1/2 inch at least) in wall where basement stairwell partition is. Stairwell wall uneven, has a ledge that starts out about 1/4 inch and gets bigger as it goes toward the basement, nearly an inch at the far end. This ledge also has a large crack that runs above it. Ceiling where house halves join together has a large hump that is very obvious.
Bedroom #1: We use this room as an office/computer room. Window won't open properly. Had to replace the carpet because original was so wrinkled and uneven it was not repairable.
Kitchen: Had to replace the microwave in the first 6 months. Ceramic tile put on with caulking, caulking coming out leaving large cracks is some areas around the counter. All of the cabinet doors are put on upside down. There are nails sticking out all over tops of cabinets. Tops of cabinets falling into cabinets. Quarter round and baseboard not attached in several places. Kitchen faucet had no water pressure, had to hire a plumber. When he took the faucet apart is began crumbling. Had to replace at cost of $435.
Bedroom #2: Carpet not layed correctly. Very wrinkled. Window difficult to open. Had to replace clothes hanging bar in closet, original pulled out of wall.
Bathroom #2: Ceramic tile put on with caulking. Caulking falling out leaving large crack between backsplash and counter.
Bedroom #3: Dealer replaced window because it was twisted and broken. Replaced clothes hangin bar, original pulled out of wall.
Dining Room: Patio doors are warping.
Living Room: When it rained, water poured in above and below front door. Had to have a storm door installed to keep water out. Windows not sealed appropriately.
All windows in the entire house are single hung and of very poor quality. The cheapest you can get.
Master Bedroom: Carpet is terribly wrinkled and is going to have to be replaced.
Master Closets: Replaced all the hanging bars. Originals all pulled out of wall.
Master Bath: Tub faucet put on crooked and plumbing leaked. Sink faucet and plumbing leaked warping bottom of sink cabinet. Had to hire a plumber again.
Roof leaked twice and had to have it repaired.
Most recently we had approximately 3 inches of snow in the attic. We discovered it when water began dripping into the basement throught the joint where the 2 halves of the house join together.
All but 2 of the interior doors have had to be re-squared because they wouln't latch.
The doors and interior trim are also the very cheapest, poorest quality you can buy.
There is constant dust accumulation. I have lived in many different homes in my 63 years, from 100 years old to brand new and this is the most dusty, dirty home, I've ever had.
