We rented an RV from Happy Camper a couple of weeks ago. The RV had multiple issues during checkout, the worst being ABS warning light and an Airbag warning light. According to their contract, the were required to provide a similar unit but "none were available". We had to choose to either cancel our trip, or take the unit. Luckily a quick test drive cleared the ABS light, so we went for it.
I took the unit home to give it some fresh water before heading out, and discovered the exterior shower valve was broken, and the unit couldn't hold water. I called and talked to Happy Camper, and they said there was nothing they could do, but they would reimburse me if I wanted to replace it. I spent the next few hours acquiring parts and installing them. Soon into driving the unit it showed 3/4 full on the gas tank. It was supposed to be full when I got it, so after replacing the valve, I filled the tank up and got a receipt that shows the location of the filling ($57 or ~ 17 gallons). I left a message for them stating that I feel I should be reimbursed for the fuel spent repairing their unit, and to please call me back. I never received a call back.
During our vacation we discovered many other small issues with the unit, like panels that were falling off, missing blinds, etc..
The unit was turned in as described by others, nobody there, just drop it off with the keys in it! I did so, including receipts for the valve and the fuel. After 1.5 weeks I received my security deposit back, reimbursement for the valve, and reimbursement for 1 gal of gas. Calls to ask why they only reimbursed one gallon went unanswered, and no return calls were received. It seems they have my callerID memorized now..
This is a shady outfit with sub-par, neglected, potentially dangerous equipment. Stay clear at all costs.
